Rugby Betting Guide
New to betting on Rugby? We've got everything you need to know below including explanations of some of the popular markets for betting as well as important rules it's worth knowing before placing your bet.
Rugby League
Popular Markets
Match Markets - there are two types of match market bets on Rugby League. The "Including Overtime" market is the result of the match after any additional overtime. This normally consists of backing Team A or Team B to win. There is also a 3-Way market which involves backing the result after the allotted 80 minutes has been completed. If this does end in a Draw then overtime would then be played.
Total Points - bets placed on whether the total number of points in the match will be over or under the specified line. These are usually stated that they are "Including Overtime".
Winning Margin - bets placed on the margin by which either team will win. For example, a final score of 44-12 would be a winning margin of 32. These bets normally state "Regular Time" which means they are settled on the result after 80 minutes.
Try Scorers - bets can be placed on the player to score the first try, last try, to score a try at any time or to score 2 or more tries during the match. Any bets placed on these markets will be voided if the specified player does not start the match, all other bets will stand.
Outright - bets placed on the outright winner of a specific tournament or event, normally over multiple matches.
Other Markets
Match Parlay - bets on this market involve backing the total number of points in the game along with the result as a combination.
Total Tries - bets placed on the total number of tries scored in the match. Settled on the official result.
Race To - bets placed on this market are to name the first team reach the nominated number of points. If you backed Race to 15 points for example, then the first team to reach 15 points would be the winner. These bets are inclusive of overtime, and the draw is to bet on neither team reaching the nominated point value.
Rugby Union
Popular Markets
Match Markets - there are two types of match market bets on Rugby Union. The "Including Overtime" market is the result of the match after any additional overtime. In Rugby Union, the game can still be a draw after overtime, and if this is the case then your bet will be settled as a dead heat (the odds you took divided by 2). The 3-Way market on the other hand involves backing the result of the match after 80 minutes, which includes the draw.
Handicap - bets placed on the handicap market give each team an advantage or a disadvantage depending on the line. Bets on this market will be settled on the result, after the handicap has been applied. For example, if you backed Team A -3.5 points and they won the game 38-36, the handicap would lose as Team A no longer win the game when you remove 3.5 points from their total.
